Advocacy Matters (Wales) board of directors are also charity trustees.  For the purposes of charity law and under Advocacy Matter (Wales) Memorandum and Articles of Association they are know as the Management Committee.

The Management Committee has overall strategic responsibility for Advocacy Matters (Wales).  This includes ensuring the organisation operates legally and is accountable and open.

MAYO WIN-PE - ChairMAYO WIN-PE - Chair
Formerly a practising barrister specialising in family, public, children, community care and social work law, Mayo is a Senior Lecturer in Law at the Cardiff School of Management, University of Wales Institute, Cardiff and an Associate Lecturer in social work and practice at the Open University.

 

RAYMOND KEMP – TreasurerRAYMOND KEMP – Treasurer
Ray has extensive experience of, and qualifications from, manufacturing, local government and education.  A member of the chartered Association of certified Accountants and the institute of learning & teaching (ITL), Ray is Course Director of the BA Accountancy & Economics degree at UWIC.  He is a GCSE Examiner and distance-learner tutor on the BSc Financial Services run by the Institute of Financial Services/Manchester Metropolitan University.  Ray is currently studying for a doctorate in education at UW Cardiff.

PATRICIA GRIFFITHS – Company Secretary
Before returning to Wales 6 years ago, Tricia ran a Citizen Advice Bureau that pioneered specialist services for people with mental health problems, people with disabilities and carers.  A graduate of the Open University, Tricia has worked as a patient’s advocate in a psychiatric hospital, a project worker with SWMHA and has served as a trustee on a number of voluntary bodies including MIND in the Vale of Glamorgan.

IAN FERRIS – TrusteeIAN FERRIS – Trustee
Ian has a dual role as Head of Nursing/General Manager for the Learning Disabilities Directorate of the Bro Morgannwg NHS Trust. He has 34 years experience in the field of learning disabilities and has focused on developing new and creative community based services to meet people’s needs.  He has extensive experience of working on WAG and Department of Health Strategic Working Groups and the Management of Change within multi-disciplinary and multi-agency organisations.

NEIL JELLINGS – Trustee
Neil has recently retired after 31 years as a police officer with South Wales Police. As a former Chief Superintendent he brings a number of skills to the board including extensive management experience, budgetary control, with a background in personnel, equality and discrimination matters. Neil is also a non executive director with the Wales Centre for Health an Assembly Body charged with improving the health of people in Wales and has previously been a trustee of his National Association the Superintendent Association. Neil is now developing other interests including involvement with other charities as well as expanding his leisure time interests.

LEIGH PRICE – TrusteeLEIGH PRICE – Trustee
Leigh is a housing graduate who has spent the last 12 years capacity building marginalised groups: disabled adults/children, the homeless and people who are drug & alcohol dependant. Leigh is an Independent Training Consultant and an experienced Project Manager familiar with setting up and delivering Volunteer programmes.  Leigh is currently employed as an Operational Manager for a domiciliary provider to individuals with learning disabilities.
